ACCET was established as a private not-for-profit corporation in 1974 as an accrediting agency for the sole purpose of promulgating valid and reliable standards, policies and practices for the evaluation of postsecondary education and training institutions that voluntarily commit to a high level of quality and ethics.
The agency has been officially recognized by the U. S. Secretary of Education as a “valid and reliable authority” for that purpose and, since 1998, ACCET has been ISO 9001 certified as a Quality Management System, the only such accrediting agency to hold that distinction. ACCET currently accredits approximately 679 training operations, of which over 250 of those offer Intensive English Programs, primarily for international students.
